CALCULATION

How PSI is calculated

Average the concentration, convert it to a sub-index, then take the highest sub-index.

02 THE CONVERSION

Concentration to sub-index

The line changes slope at NEA’s breakpoints. Find your concentration on the bottom; read its PSI sub-index on the left.

NEXT-HOUR SCENARIO

Change the next hour’s PM₂.₅

The new reading replaces the oldest hour. Chart 01 and the conversion in 02 update together.

Simulation using the selected hour’s rounded samples; other pollutants are held fixed.

03 OVERALL PSI

Pollutant sub-indices

The overall PSI is the highest sub-index at each hour. Select a pollutant to highlight its line.

DAILY REPLAY

Satellite, smoke and hotspots

Follows the history slider’s selected day. Smoke areas and hotspots are ASMC observations; the satellite background is NASA imagery. Clouds and satellite coverage can hide detections.

Why the numbers don’t always match

Hourly readings and published averages are rounded. Our reconstruction uses the public hourly samples, so it can differ from NEA’s published 24-hour concentration. Official readings always stay separate.

One-hour bands are a different scale

PM₂.₅’s hourly concentration bands are Normal (0–55), Elevated (56–150), High (151–250), and Very high (251+ µg/m³). Don’t read them as PSI bands. For health advice, check NEA’s latest guidance ↗.
